Halloween-Themed Musical Performance Sunday

Frankenstein Poster

Arkansas Tech University’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform the score to the 1931 film “Frankenstein” while members of the audience watch the feature film at Witherspoon Auditorium on Sunday, Oct. 30.

The show will begin at 2:30 p.m. Admission will be $2 per person. All planning on attending are invited to participate in a Halloween costume contest, which will take place immediately before the musical performance.

The film is based upon a 1927 play by Peggy Webling, who based her production upon an 1818 novel by Mary Shelley.

The 1931 “Frankenstein” movie was released without a musical score. In 2002, the Boris Koutzen Foundation commissioned Michael Shapiro to write a 70-minute score to accompany the film.

Dr. Daniel A. Belongia, professor of music and director of bands at ATU, serves as conductor for the ATU Symphonic Wind Ensemble.

This special performance by the ATU Symphonic Wind Ensemble is sponsored by Arkansas Tire and Auto Service, Honda of Russellville, Dog Ear Books, Retro Roasts and the Brainstorm Agency.
