Amanda Guizar is the new emergency manager in the Arkansas Tech University Department of Public Safety.
Her appointment was announced by Tammy Dougan, ATU chief of public safety.
“Arkansas Tech is where my career in emergency management began, so returning to serve the university and the community I have always called home feels incredibly special,” said Guizar, who is a lifelong resident of Pope County. “I am excited to become part of the green and gold family and to work alongside students, faculty, staff and community partners to help ensure ATU is prepared, resilient and ready to respond when challenges arise.”
A 2008 graduate of the ATU Bachelor of Science degree program in emergency management, Guizar has more than 10 years professional experience in emergency preparedness from the Arkansas Department of Health. She served that agency as volunteer program manager, public health preparedness coordinator and preparedness lead planner.
Guizar served as an intern in the Arkansas Tech emergency operations center and as a student worker for the ATU emergency management and homeland security academic program during her time as a student.
She succeeds Heath Whorton, who served as emergency manager in the ATU Department of Public Safety for 11 years before transitioning to become the photojournalist in the ATU Office of University Relations.
