Furst-Bowe Among Home State’s Top Women Leaders

Dr. Julie Furst-Bowe, Arkansas Tech University interim vice president for academic affairs, is included in the Women We Admire list of top women leaders of Wisconsin for 2023.

Furst-Bowe became interim vice president for academic affairs at ATU in March 2022. She will complete her service to Arkansas Tech at the conclusion of the fall 2023 semester.

“Dr. Furst-Bowe has been a great asset to Arkansas Tech University during her interim appointment as vice president for academic affairs,” said Dr. Russell Jones, ATU interim president. “She has been much more than a steady hand. She has helped ATU make significant progress toward aligning our curriculum and resources with current and future student needs. We are grateful for her outstanding service to our university and wish her the best in her future endeavors.”

A native of Chippewa Falls, Wis., and resident of Elk Mound, Wis., Furst-Bowe earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism with a minor in art from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and a Master of Science degree in instructional media technology from the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

She obtained a Doctor of Education degree in work, family and community education and a professional certificate in human resource development from the University of Minnesota.

Furst-Bowe joined the faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Stout in 1990 and went on to hold a variety of departmental and university leadership positions, culminating in service as provost and vice chancellor for academic and student affairs from 2005-12.

Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville named Furst-Bowe chancellor in June 2012 and she remained in that role through August 2015.

Furst-Bowe returned to her home region to serve as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Chippewa Valley Technical College (Wis.). She accepted that position in August 2015 and remained until her retirement in December 2021.
