Dr. Cheryl Monfee, Arkansas Tech University professor of nursing, was recognized as ATU faculty member of the month by ATU Faculty Senate on Monday, Dec. 8.

The honor is based upon Monfee’s leadership of the Arkansas Tech Department of Nursing’s participation in the nationwide Project Linus.

Named after the character from the “Charlie Brown” cartoon strip and subsequent motion pictures, Project Linus has more than 300 chapters across the United States. ATU student nurses donate through the Project Linus Central Arkansas chapter, which has donated approximately 1,500 blankets since it was founded in 2017.

This year, 53 individuals representing the ATU Department of Nursing created and contributed 20 handmade blankets to Project Linus. The blankets will be will be distributed to children who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need.

Monfee has served on the ATU faculty since 1992.

The ATU faculty member of the month program is a new initiative introduced by Dr. Michael Rogers, who is serving as chair of ATU Faculty Senate during the 2025-26 academic year.
