Dsouza Investigates How Farmers Can Increase Profits

Dr. Alwin Dsouza

Arkansas Tech University faculty member Dr. Alwin Dsouza is co-author of a study that examines the factors involved in agricultural profitability in developing countries.

Dsouza joined ATU in 2020 as assistant professor of agriculture. He collaborated on his recently published study with Dr. Ashok K. Mishra and Dr. Scott Webster from the Arizona State University faculty.

The article resulting from their study, “Vertical Coordination and Post-Harvest Losses: Implications on Food Loss,” was published in Applied Economic Perspectives and Policy.

The study found, in part, that “contract farming with low rejection reduces post-harvest losses and increases the profits of smallholdersā€¦a win-win situation for growers and contracting firms.”
