Amy Pennington, Arkansas Tech University vice president for student affairs, announced on Monday, Sept. 14, that Tammy Dougan is the new chief of public safety in the ATU Department of Public Safety.
Dougan has been a member of the department since February 2016 and had served as interim chief since July 1.
“Chief Dougan brings extensive law enforcement experience, a deep understanding of the ATU community and a strong commitment to the safety and well-being of our students, employees and larger community,” said Pennington. “Throughout her decade of service to ATU, and most recently in her role as interim chief, she has demonstrated steady leadership, sound judgment, a strong work ethic and genuine care for the members of the ATU Department of Public Safety. I am confident that Chief Dougan will provide strong leadership as the department continues its important work and prepares for future opportunities and challenges.”
Dougan holds a Master of Science degree in emergency management and homeland security from ATU, a Master of Arts degree in organizational leadership and learning from ATU, a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice and legal studies from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and an Associate of Applied Sciences degree in criminal justice from Black River Technical College.
She is a certified Clery compliance officer through the National Association of Clery Compliance Officers and Professionals.
Dougan’s previous experience includes work as a patrol officer for the Russellville Police Department, as a patrol officer and emergency dispatcher for the Paragould Police Department and as an emergency dispatcher for Pope County 911. She is also a first sergeant in the Arkansas Army National Guard.
