Contra Dance Planned for Oct. 11

Contra Dance Fall 2019

Ross Pendergraft Library and Technology Center at Arkansas Tech University is planning a contra dance as part of its continuing Echoes of the River Valley cultural series.

The event is scheduled for 6:30-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, in Hull Physical Education Building room 111.

No experience or partner is required. Admission will be free and open to the public.

According to information provided by Sherry Tinerella, public services librarian at ATU, contra dance is an informal country dance stemming from such dances in 17th century western Europe. It is also referred to as barn dance.

Contra dance traditionally includes live musicians playing fiddle tunes. Each dance is taught before it is performed.
