College of Education and Health Announces Promotions

Dr. Tim Carter, dean of the Arkansas Tech University College of Education and Health, has announced the promotion of three interim leaders into permanent positions.

With those promotions, Dr. Brett Stone is associate dean for the ATU College of Education and Health, Dr. Pam Dixon is head of the ATU Department of Teaching and Educational Leadership and Dr. Rene Couture is head of the ATU School of Professional and Community Education.

“Dr. Stone, Dr. Dixon and Dr. Couture each have the appropriate combination of experience and leadership skills necessary to continue moving their respective areas forward in support of student access and success,” said Carter. “We are grateful for their willingness to lead and we are excited to witness the many ways in which their efforts and expertise will benefit our students and their faculty colleagues.”

Stone joined the ATU faculty in 2019 and has served as interim dean of the ATU College of Education and Health throughout the 2023-24 academic year. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lyon College, a Master of Science degree from the University of Arkansas and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Walden University. His faculty rank is associate professor of health and physical education.

Dixon has served on the ATU faculty since 2011. She has served as interim head of the ATU Department of Teaching and Educational Leadership during the 2023-24 academic year. Dixon graduated from Arkansas Tech with Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education degrees. She holds a Doctor of Education degree from Walden University. Her faculty rank is associate professor of school counseling and leadership.

Couture became a member of the ATU faculty in 2012. He has carried out the duties of interim head of the ATU School of Professional and Community Education during the 2023-24 academic year. Couture holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Michael’s College, a Master of Science degree from Indiana State University and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Northern Colorado. His faculty rank is associate professor of student affairs administration.
