Dr. Tim Carter will serve as interim dean of the Arkansas Tech University College of Education and Health effective July 1, 2023.
A member of the ATU faculty since 1998, Carter has fulfilled the duties of associate dean since July 2018. He played an integral role in helping ATU’s education programs earn accreditation from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation in 2020.
Carter holds Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education degrees from Arkansas Tech. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Georgia. His faculty rank at ATU is professor of curriculum and instruction.
“Dr. Carter’s lifelong affection for Arkansas Tech University is evident in the diligence with which he performs his daily tasks,” said Dr. Julie Furst-Bowe, ATU interim vice president for academic affairs. “He demonstrates an enthusiasm that contributes to a positive culture and inspires others. I look forward to working with him as he takes the next step on his leadership journey and continues to contribute to the excellence of our programs in the ATU College of Education and Health.”
Carter will succeed Dr. Linda Bean, who is retiring as dean of the ATU College of Education and Health on June 30, 2023, after 23 years at ATU and a 50-year career in education.
“Dr. Bean’s success in leadership is built upon her warmth and genuine concern for her colleagues and students,” said Furst-Bowe. “Through her guidance of our education programs, her earlier work as a faculty member in the ATU School of Business and her work at the end of her career to blend our education programs with our programs in nursing, rehabilitation science, emergency management, professional studies and student affairs administration under one college, Dr. Bean has positively influenced multiple academic disciplines at ATU and helped position them for continued success.”
