ATU Students Receive Gilman International Scholarship

Arkansas Tech University students Jacob Howard of Russellville and Noelia Santos Rodriguez of Hot Springs have earned the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship.

Howard, a social studies education major, and Santos, a business administration major, will utilize their Gilman funding to participate in study abroad programs during summer 2024. Howard will travel to London, England, as part of a group led by faculty mentor Dr. Cheryl Monfee, while Santos Rodriguez will venture to Salamanca, Spain, as part of a group led by faculty mentor Dr. Alejandra Carballo.

According to the program website, the U.S. Department of State Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program enables students to study or intern abroad and develop skills deemed critical to national security and economic prosperity. The Institute of International Education has administered the program since its inception in 2001.

Gabriele Haulmark, director of the ATU International Education Office, ATU study abroad coordinator and senior instructor of German, said the ATU Office of Study Abroad offers application workshops on the Gilman Scholarship and similar opportunities each semester.
