Seventy children in the Arkansas River Valley will have a brighter 2025 holiday season due to the efforts of the Arkansas Tech University College Panhellenic Council.
ATU sorority members worked together to gain sponsors for Salvation Army Angel Tree children through a coordinated effort that involved ATU students, faculty, staff and alumni.
“The feeling of knowing that 70 children in our area will have a happier holiday season is a feeling that I cannot even describe,” said Ava Word, an ATU senior from Benton and 2025 president of the ATU College Panhellenic Council. “I feel so blessed to be a part of an organization like CPC that puts together things like this for the community, and I am beyond thankful for the ATU community for their eagerness to serve. Angel Tree would never be possible without the support of our students, faculty, staff and registered student organizations…for them, I am eternally grateful.”
This marks the 10th consecutive year the ATU College Panhellenic Council has partnered with the Salvation Army location in Russellville for the benefit of the Angel Tree program.
“Philanthropic efforts such as Angel Tree donations each year teach students about the importance of giving back,” said Word. “It is so easy to get caught up in our own little world, so taking a moment to be grateful for the things we have while benefiting the less fortunate gives each of us a sense of thankfulness and promotes the importance of service. These efforts will benefit members and students to be productive members of their communities, carrying the habits of self-sacrifice and service to their workplaces, hometowns and future families.”
