Faculty, staff and students on the Arkansas Tech University campus in Russellville are invited to participate in the spring 2023 campus safety walk hosted by the ATU Department of Public Safety, the ATU Office of Facilities Management and ATU registered student organization Do Something on Wednesday, March 29.
The walk will begin on the north side of Ross Pendergraft Library and Technology Center at 7 p.m.
“We encourage all students, faculty and staff to be a part of this event,” said Joshua McMillian, chief of the ATU Department of Public Safety. “The purpose of this event is to identify any problem areas on campus where people don’t feel safe. This can be due to insufficient lighting, landscaping and many other factors. The group will identify safety concerns on campus and a detailed list will be compiled based on the group’s evaluation. This information will be presented to university officials as a document to guide future improvements on our beautiful campus.”
Arkansas Tech has earned national recognition three consecutive years for its efforts to promote student safety, well-being and inclusion.
Vector Solutions bestowed the Campus Prevention Network Seal of Prevention upon ATU in 2020, 2021 and 2022. The recognition is provided to select institutions that have utilized comprehensive, evidence-based digital prevention education on issues such as sexual assault, alcohol misuse, mental health and discrimination with a goal of creating a safer, more inclusive learning and working environment.
