The Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus air conditioning and refrigeration program earned a 94 percent pass rate on their recent EPA 608 industry certification exam, exceeding the national average pass rate of 85 percent.
The certification exam is a nationally-recognized assessment that measures the knowledge and technical competencies required of entry-level heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC/R) professionals. The exam evaluates students in critical areas including electrical systems, refrigeration principles, heating systems, air distribution, troubleshooting, safety practices and industry standards. Employers across the country recognize these credentials as evidence that graduates are prepared to enter the workforce with the technical skills needed to succeed.

Jacobs, ATU-Ozark chancellor. “Our goal is to prepare graduates who are ready to solve problems, think critically and contribute on day one of their careers. This achievement reflects the dedication of our students, the strength of our curriculum and our commitment to providing training that meets the highest industry standards.”
The ATU-Ozark air conditioning and refrigeration program offers a Certificate of Proficiency, a Technical Certificate and an Associate of Applied Science degree. Students have the opportunity to purse a facilities maintenance option, which provides additional training in building systems and maintenance operations.

Smith, ATU-Ozark vice chancellor for academic affairs and workforce advancement. “Under his leadership, the program continually aligns curriculum with industry needs, ensuring graduates are equipped with the knowledge and hands-on experience employers expect. The program’s consistently strong certification performance reflects that commitment to excellence.”
To support continued growth in skilled trades education, ATU-Ozark is expanding its current HVAC building by 7,000 square feet. The facility will provide additional instructional and laboratory space for air conditioning and refrigeration and other skilled trades.
A ribbon cutting ceremony for the expanded ATU-Ozark skilled trades building is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 1-3 p.m. Community members, industry partners and prospective students are invited to attend and tour the new facility.
ATU-Ozark also provides air conditioning and refrigeration training for high school students through Arkansas Tech Career Center in Russellville. ATU-Ozark has announced that it will offer the facilities maintenance option this fall during evening hours at ATCC in Russellville for adult learners at the post-secondary level.
