ATU Music in Little Rock Planned for March 9-10

ATU Music in Little Rock

Arkansas Tech University Music in Little Rock, a two-day celebration of the ATU Department of Music’s vibrant past, present and future, is scheduled for Saturday, March 9, and Sunday, March 10.

Members of the ATU music faculty will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at the William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum, 1200 President Clinton Ave. in Little Rock. Tickets will be $50 and will include access to the performance as well as heavy hors d’oeuvres and drinks.

The ATU Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at Wilbur D. Mills University Studies High School, 708 E. Dixon Road in Little Rock. Admission to the March 10 concert will be free.

Pieces scheduled for performance on March 10 include compositions by Mason Bates, Joel Puckett, John Philip Sousa, Alex Knutrud and Omar Thomas.

Ilan Morgenstern, bass trombonist for the Vancouver Symphony, will appear as a guest artist, as will Dr. Phoebe Robertson from the ATU music faculty and the ATU Youth Flute Ensemble.

Dr. Daniel A. Belongia, ATU director of bands and professor of music, serves as conductor for the ATU Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Daniel Cooper, ATU Class of 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in music education, will appear on March 10 as a guest conductor.

The weekend is presented by Dr. Becky Callaway, ATU Friends of Music, the ATU Foundation and the ATU Alumni Association.
