The inaugural Tech Trek 5K will take place at Arkansas Tech University on Saturday, Aug. 23.

Check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Clary Pickleball Courts. Participation is open to ATU students, faculty and staff who wish to complete the course on bicycle, as a runner or as a walker.

“This is a fun event, not for competition, and is designed for folks who would like the bike, run, jog or walk our 5K route this Saturday morning as part of the final events of (ATU) Welcome Week,” said Kevin Solomon, ATU assistant vice president for campus life.

Bicyclists will depart from Clary Pickleball Courts at approximately 8:15 a.m., followed by runners at approximately 8:25 a.m. and walkers at approximately 8:30 a.m. The route also ends at Clary Pickleball Courts.

“This is a ATU family friendly event, so feel free to bring your significant other and children,” said Solomon. “For those biking, we ask that you bring your own bike and proper safety gear. Limited campus recreation bikes will be on site for current student use on a first come, first served basis.”

Solomon went on to explain that the route will cross over into the nearby Bona Dea Trails and Sanctuary as a means of increasing awareness of the connection point from the ATU campus to the trail among members of the Arkansas Tech community.

The ATU Department of Campus Life and the ATU Office of Campus Recreation are organizing and executing the Tech Trek 5K.
