High school seniors and juniors from Arkansas Lighthouse Charter Schools participated in the Arkansas Tech University Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS) Ag-STEM Experience Camp on the ATU campus in Russellville May 15-16.
Camp participants gained hands-on learning in agriculture, science, technology, engineering and mathematics. They also toured the ATU campus and learned about the post-secondary educational opportunities available at Arkansas Tech.
Dr. Justin Killingsworth, ATU associate professor of agricultural education and interim head of the ATU Department of Agriculture and Tourism, led the camp with assistance from current agriculture students at Arkansas Tech. Dr. Tatum Simms, ATU assistant professor of agriculture, was also among the collaborators who organized the camp.
The camp was made possible by a U.S. Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture Women and Minorities in STEM grant.
