An effort that began as a capstone project in the Arkansas Tech University computing sciences program has become a business for the four individuals who developed it.
Carter Ayers, Gavin Jones, Damian Kimbrough and Matthew Miller created a closed-domain artificial intelligence system for the lead pastor at Community Transformation Church for their capstone project during the 2025-26 academic year.
A few months later, those four individuals are operating Apophatic AI. Their company helps pastors utilize artificial intelligence to create accessible messages for their congregations.
Ayers, Jones, Kimbrough and Miller presented their technology at a conference for pastors hosted by Community Transformation Church in Houston in September. They were recognized on stage and provided the audience with a demonstration of their technology. They also connected with pastors through a booth at the conference.
