Regina Olson, director of the Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus adult education program for the past 13 years, is going out on top.
The ATU-Ozark adult education program recorded its highest enrollment ever, expanded workforce training and surpassed the national average for GED pass rate during the 2024-25 academic year.
Olson will step away from her position on June 30.
“Regina Olson’s leadership has elevated adult education at ATU-Ozark to a new standard of excellence,” said Dr. Sheila R. Jacobs, ATU-Ozark chancellor. “We are grateful for her years of service, her dedication to student success and the lasting impact she has made on our campus and the communities we serve.”
ATU-Ozark enrolled 478 adult learners during 2024-25. The program provided GED® preparation, English as a second language, digital literacy and short-term workforce training in high-demand fields. The program achieved an 87 percent GED pass rate, outperforming the national average of 75 percent and contributing to Arkansas’ top-five national ranking for pass rate.
“Our annual enrollment has continued to grow every year since COVID,” said Olson. “It’s a testament to our top-notch faculty and staff and the determination of our students.”
Under Olson’s leadership, ATU-Ozark adult education expanded its no-cost, short-term workforce training. Most classes are six weeks or less and are designed to connect students directly to employment. Programs such as certified nursing assistant, phlebotomy, pharmacy technician and education paraprofessional have helped students earn more than 80 industry-recognized credentials this year.
Additionally, ATU-Ozark adult education program instructors have awarded over 420 WAGE certifications in the fields of digital literacy, financial competency, resume building, mock interviews and career exploration in key industries.
Serving adult learners across Logan, Johnson and Franklin counties, the ATU-Ozark adult education program offers flexible instruction in-person and online. Services are provided at no cost to students. The program is designed to support personal development and regional workforce readiness.
Jacobs said ATU-Ozark is developing a leadership transition plan for the ATU-Ozark adult education program in preparation for the end of Olson’s tenure.
