Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony and reception celebrating its expanded skilled trades facility from 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22.
The existing ATU-Ozark air conditioning and refrigeration building has been expanded by 7,000 square feet to provide additional instructional and laboratory space for air conditioning and refrigeration, welding technology and other skilled trades.
The expansion project was made possible by a $2.75 million Arkansas Workforce Initiative HIRED (Higher Industry Readiness through Educational Development) program grant. The funds were earmarked to expand and modernize ATU-Ozark’s workforce training programs in the skilled trades sector.
“ATU-Ozark Campus is extremely grateful for the HIRED Grant, which has allowed us to significantly expand skilled trades education and training at a time when these occupations are critical to the strength of our workforce and our economy,” said Dr. Sheila R. Jacobs, ATU-Ozark chancellor. “Enrollment in ATU-Ozark’s skilled trades programs has increased by more than 50 percent in just one year, demonstrating both strong student interest and growing workforce demand. We are especially proud of the exceptional quality of our instructors, who bring industry expertise, high expectations and a commitment to preparing students to excel in their professions.”
ATU-Ozark faculty, staff and students, community members, industry partners and prospective students are invited to attend the Sept. 22 event and tour the new facility.
