Jerry Charles Young IV has been selected and is taking office as Arkansas Tech University campus ambassador as of Monday, May 4.
A native Arkansan born in Dardanelle on Feb. 20, Jerry IV is the continuation of an Arkansas Tech tradition that dates back to the 1930s. ATU Student Government Association cast a unanimous vote on Oct. 23, 2013, to restore the tradition following a 76-year absence and install Jerry the Bulldog as ATU campus ambassador.
Jerry Charles Young III, ATU campus ambassador since April 24, 2023, is retiring effective Monday, May 4.
“Since the return of the tradition in 2013, we have always prioritized the health and well-being of the living creatures that have carried the title of Jerry the Bulldog at Arkansas Tech,” said Sam Strasner, ATU director of university relations. “Jerry Charles Young III represented our university very well over the past three years. He is in good health, and it is important to those of us who know him best that he has the opportunity to enjoy his retirement living the lifestyle of a loved house pet.
“Those of us who have worked closely on this program over the past 13 years appreciate the love that has been shown to every Jerry, and we are grateful to everyone who supports the campus ambassador in his responsibility to represent the ‘Fight On’ spirit of Arkansas Tech,” continued Strasner. “We look forward to the tenure of Jerry IV, and we are excited for the Arkansas Tech community to meet him in-person once he completes his initial vaccinations and preliminary training.”
