ATU Jazz Ensemble Welcomes Special Guest Thursday

Guest trumpet soloist Bill Dunn will join the Arkansas Tech University Jazz Ensemble for a performance at Witherspoon Auditorium on Thursday, April 16.

The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Admission will be free and open to the public. The venue is located at 407 West Q Street on the ATU campus in Russellville.

Dunn earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Ohio State University and a Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music in New York City.

He went on to play trumpet in the U.S. Army Band, the U.S. Navy Band and alongside performers such as James Taylor, Wynton Marsalis and the O’Jays.

Dunn has made recordings on the Delos and Koch labels. He is an active clinician and soloist while serving as adjunct professor of trumpet at Shenandoah University (Va.).

Pieces scheduled for performance on April 16 include “Take the ‘A’ Train” as written by Billy Strayhorn and made famous by the Duke Ellington Orchestra, “Three More Foxes” by Maynard Ferguson, “Night in Tunisia” by Dizzy Gillespie, “Cerezo Rosa” by Louis Guglielmi and more.

The ATU Jazz Ensemble is directed by Dr. Sean Reed, ATU professor of music.
