The U.S. Department of War Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) office has bestowed its Patriot Award upon three leaders at Arkansas Tech University.
The award recipients are Dr. Russell Jones, ATU president; Amy Pennington, ATU vice president for student affairs; and Joshua McMillian, chief of the ATU Department of Public Safety.
They were nominated for the award by Tammy Dougan, first sergeant in the Arkansas Army National Guard and captain for the ATU Department of Public Safety, where she serves as assistant chief and field operations division commander.
L.W. Benson, ESGR volunteer, presented Jones, Pennington and McMillian with their awards.
According to information provided by ESGR, the Patriot Award “reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families and granting leaves of absence if needed.”
ESGR was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between reserve component service members and their civilian employers.
