Dr. Bindu Subhadra, Arkansas Tech University assistant professor of biology, was recognized as ATU faculty member of the month by ATU Faculty Senate on Tuesday, Feb. 10.

The honor is based upon Subhadra’s successful effort to earn a $52,236 Arkansas IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) grant through the INBRE Pilot Award.

“Multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter nosocomialis infections pose a significant and increasing threat to public health, particularly in hospital settings,” wrote Subhadra in the grant proposal. “By characterizing the novel regulatory protein VqsM, this project aims to uncover fundamental mechanisms driving antibiotic resistance and virulence. These findings will support the future development of innovative strategies to combat resistant infections, directly aligning with National Institutes of Health’s mission to reduce the burden of infectious diseases.”

Subhadra has served on the Arkansas Tech faculty since 2024.

The ATU faculty member of the month program is a new initiative introduced by Dr. Michael Rogers, who is serving as chair of ATU Faculty Senate during the 2025-26 academic year.

Previous winners of the ATU faculty member of the month award were Dr. Jacob Grosskopf, Dr. Julie Mikles-Schluterman, Dr. Cheryl Monfee and Neal Harrington.
