A group of Arkansas Tech University students stepped into The Leadership Lab on Tuesday, Sept. 9, and walked out with a greater understanding of themselves.
A collaborative effort between the ATU Department of Campus Life and Dr. Jeremy Schwehm, ATU professor and program director of organizational studies, The Leadership Lab is a two-part program designed to help Arkansas Tech students better understand their individual leadership styles and how those styles shape their interactions with others.
During the first part of the program on Sept. 9, ATU students developed a definition of the term leader, identified their leadership strengths and took a leadership style quiz.
Participants were divided into three groups and challenged to build as many durable houses out of index cards and tape as they could within an allotted period of time. Each of the groups ultimately produced a house that withstood the durability test of being dropped from approximately six feet.
In the aftermath of the house building exercise, the students discussed which characteristics of leadership they and their peers exhibited during planning and construction.
Part two of The Leadership Lab is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, in Doc Bryan Student Services Center room 242. There will be leadership-themed competitions and prizes.
All ATU Russellville campus students are invited to attend and participate. Attendance at the Sept. 9 session is not required to participate in the Sept. 25 session.
