An Arkansas Tech University registered student organization will remember the sacrifice made by first responders on Sept. 11, 2001, with a 9/11 memorial stair climb at Simmons Bank Field at Thone Stadium on the ATU campus in Russellville.

The event will take place from 6-11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11. Participants may choose between a “Finish the Climb” option (32 stories) or a “Full Climb” option (110 stories). All climbers are encouraged to bring a water bottle.

Community members who participate in the climb are invited to park in parking lot OO, which is located on the north side of Simmons Bank Field at Thone Stadium and adjacent to the Hull Physical Education Building. A volunteer will be on hand to admit climb participants to the parking lot, which will otherwise be closed in advance of the ATU home football game scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11.

The memorial stair climb is sponsored by ATU Resilience in Disasters and Emergencies (RIDE), a student organization based in the ATU School of Professional and Community Education, and the ATU Department of Public Safety.

ATU offers a Bachelor of Science degree in emergency management and a Master of Science degree in emergency management and homeland security.
