Smith Interns in Maryland Over Summer

Arkansas Tech University sophomore Matthew Smith is learning about the agriculture and public relations industries this summer as part of his internship.

Smith is a native of Hermitage, and he is spending the summer working with Big City Farms in Maryland as a public relations intern.

“Big City Farms is an urban agriculture company in Baltimore,” said Smith. “During my internship, I’ll be working on the company’s website and be assisting with customer relations at farmers markets.”

Smith said he hopes the experience will provide insight on the opportunities that exist to utilize public relations in agriculture.

“Working in an urban farm setting is a new experience for me,” said Smith. “I hope this internship will help me to realize other opportunities that exist to combine my love of agriculture and public relations.”

In addition to assisting with public relations efforts, Smith will also have the opportunity to spend time in the greenhouses.

“I’m also looking forward to spending time working in the greenhouses harvesting local produce,” said Smith. “The produce will be sent to restaurants, grocery stores and farmers markets.”
