Two Golden Suns Earn Cross Country All-GAC

Golden Suns at 2019 GAC Cross Country Championships

Arkansas Tech University’s Aubre Gilreath and Halle Gilreath placed in the top 20 of the individual standings at the 2019 Great American Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday in Arkadelphia.

Aubre finished eighth with a time of 18 minutes, 53.5 seconds over the 5-kilometer course. She was named All-GAC first team.

Halle completed the course in 19:28.2 to finish 15th. She collected All-GAC second team accolades.

The Gilreath sisters led the Golden Suns to a fifth-place finish among 12 squads in the team standings. It was an improvement of two positions as compared to Arkansas Tech’s finish in the conference meet one year earlier.

Lauryn Doublet (21st, 19:41:4), Halle Stringer (53rd, 20:51:6) and Chloee Richard (61st, 21:14:8) also contributed to the Golden Suns’ team score.

Oklahoma Baptist University won the team championship, with the individual title went to Anna Mora of East Central University with a time of 17:57.3.

Head coach Brock Hime at the ATU cross country team will conclude the 2019 schedule by competing in the NCAA Division II Central Region Championships Saturday, Nov. 9, in Joplin, Mo.
