Tigers Too Much for Wonder Boys in Ada

East Central University shot 62 percent from the field in the first half and remained unbeaten at home this season by defeating Arkansas Tech University 93-78 in Great American Conference men’s basketball at the Kerr Activities Center in Ada, Okla., on Thursday night.

The Tigers (14-5 overall, 8-5 GAC) were 18-of-29 from the field during the opening 20 minutes, including 7-of-12 (58 percent) from 3-point range.

ECU led 50-36 at halftime. A 7-0 Tigers’ spurt midway through the second half staked them to an insurmountable 72-52 lead with 9:21 remaining.

Four ECU players reached double figures in scoring, led by Caleb Williams with 16 points and Matt Garriga with 15 points. The Tigers out-rebounded Arkansas Tech 41-31.

ECU improved to 8-0 at the Kerr Center this season and won its sixth consecutive home game against ATU.

R.J. Glasper paced the Wonder Boys with 26 points. It was his 33rd career game with 20 or more points.

Devante Foster had a career-high 23 points for ATU. He was 7-of-11 from the field and 8-of-8 at the free throw line. Foster also collected eight rebounds. Kevin McNeal chipped in 10 points.

The Wonder Boys (11-8, 7-6) will face Southeastern Oklahoma State University for a 3 p.m. GAC contest at Bloomer Sullivan Arena in Durant on Saturday, Feb. 1. Live coverage will be provided by KCJC 102.3 FM and www.arkansastechsports.com.
