Golden Suns Clinch Berth in GAC Tournament

Arkansas Tech University is returning to the volleyball postseason for a 13th consecutive year.

The Golden Suns defeated Southern Arkansas University 25-23, 25-16, 25-16 at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center in Magnolia on Thursday night to earn the No. 8 seed in the 2019 Great American Conference Tournament.

Arkansas Tech (16-13 overall, 8-8 GAC) will face regular season GAC champion Oklahoma Baptist University (25-5, 14-2) in a first-round match-up at Bank OZK Arena in Hot Springs on Thursday, Nov. 21. First serve is planned for 5 p.m.

The Golden Suns have an all-time record of 15-4 in the GAC Tournament. They are four-time champions of the event. Tech’s most recent GAC Tournament title in volleyball came in 2017.

The champion of the 2019 GAC Tournament will receive an automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Division II Tournament.

Other first-round matches in Hot Springs will pit No. 2 seed Northwestern Oklahoma State University against No. 7 seed Ouachita Baptist University, No. 3 seed Southwestern Oklahoma State University against No. 6 seed Harding University and No. 4 seed Henderson State University against No. 5 seed Southern Nazarene University.
