Alton Simpson (’74) retired June 30, 2020, after 30 years of service to the University of Memphis as the director of environmental health and safety.

Steve Womack (COMM ’79) was elected to his sixth consecutive term as the representative for the Third Congressional District of Arkansas.

1980s

Joyce Blakney (MATH ’82) retired after 35 years teaching high school math in Louisiana, Arkansas and Maine. Spring Sale Horizontal Crop

James Taylor (’85) was named group president and chief operating officer for physician and leadership solutions at AMN Healthcare.

Bob Burris (BUAD ’86) and LeAnne Linton Burris (ACCT ’88) celebrated their 30th year in the childcare business. They have owned and operated Happy Campers preschool and clubhouse since January 1990.

Kevin Hern (ENGR ’86) was elected to his second consecutive term as the representative for the First Congressional District of Oklahoma.

Dewayne Dove (MUED ’87) was named 2020 Arkansas Bandmaster of the Year. He is band director at Russellville High School.

Anthony Gortemiller (HPE ’87) was inducted into the Arkansas Tech University U.S. Army ROTC Hall of Honor during Homecoming 2020.

Luke Eggering (FW ‘88) was honored by the Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS) as a recipient of its 40th Anniversary Award. Luke was recognized for the contributions that he has made to wetland research, practice, education, communication and support. He is a senior project manager and biologist at Parsons Corporation.

Traci Webster Fennell (BUAD ’88) was promoted to vice president of On-Shelf Marketing Group. She and her husband, James, live in Bentonville.

1990s

David Spicer (BUAD ’91 & M.S. CSP ’19), public safety officer at Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus, accepted the duties of facilities maintenance supervisor at ATU-Ozark.

Tina Tate Pomeroy (BUAD ’96) was promoted to information technology senior relationship manager at Arvest Bank.

Mary Alison Wish (COM SCI ’98) was named director of the Arkansas Coding Academy at the University of Central Arkansas.

2000s

Chris Campbell (HPE ’00) was named senior systems administrator for Epic at WellStar Health System in Atlanta, Ga.

Jazz Johnston (EAM ’00 & M.Ed. ’14) was selected as head boys’ and girls’ swimming coach at Russellville High School.

Ben Montgomery (JOUR ’00) wrote a book entitled “A Shot in the Moonlight: How a Freed Slave and a Confederate Soldier Fought for Justice in the Jim Crow South.” It was published by Little, Brown and Company on Jan. 26, 2021, and was named one of the 10 most anticipated books of 2021 by O, The Oprah Magazine.

Rhonda Fleming (’02) was No. 1 in new consultant sales for Thirty-One Gifts in Arkansas during fiscal year 2020.

Stephanie Jeffers Metcalf (HIM ’02) and Johnathan Metcalf (MGMT/MKTG ’04) opened Helping Hands Medical Center LLC. Johnathan also became owner of Metcalf Trucking Inc. and was selected to serve on the ATU Alumni Association Board of Directors. Each of their three children — John Paul, Jayci and Jordan — are ATU students.

Brandi Easterling Collins (CRWR ’03 & & M.S. CSP ’05) published her fourth novel, “One Shot,” in January 2021. She is the licensing, brand and editorial manager at Arkansas Tech.

Ryan Taylor

Ryan L. Taylor (JOUR ’03) produced, wrote, recorded, mixed and mastered a new solo album entitled “Enjoy the Aftermath.” It was released in July 2020. Ryan is the video production manager at Arkansas Tech.

Brittany Tate Blankenship (ECED ’04) was one of 15 Arkansas teachers accepted into the High Reliability Teacher (HRT) certification cohort sponsored by the Arkansas Department of Education in fall 2020. Brittany is a library media specialist for Danville Public Schools.

Jennifer Ford (COM SCI ’04) was named to Talk Business and Politics’ 2020 Forty Under Forty list. She is vice president of engineering and technology for J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. in Lowell.

Maggie Waymack-Cope (HPE ’04 & M.Ed. ’10) was elected to the Cabot City Council.

Felisha Sutton Weaver (JOUR ’04) was appointed to the University and College designers Association (UCDA) Board of Directors for a four-year term beginning in January 2021. She is currently serving as the UCDA conference chair for the 2021 annual conference in Denver. Felisha is the director of publications & creative services at Arkansas Tech.

Brian Hilburn (INTL STUDIES ’05) completed a federal judicial clerkship for a United States magistrate judge in the southern district of New York and started a second clerkship for a U.S. bankruptcy judge, also in the southern district.

Brandon Rodgers (JOUR ’05) gained employment at First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow, Okla., as communications pastor.

Emily Bell (SPH/ENGL ’07 & M.S. CSP ’08) was promoted to director of the Trojan Transition and Assistance Center at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Sara Reed Brownlee (ENGL EDU ’07 & M.S. CSP ’19) was hired as teacher prep advisor in Student Support Services at Arkansas Tech University.

Beau Dollar (ECON/FIN ’07) was selected best financial planner by the readers of The Courier for a second consecutive year. He operates Beau Dollar Wealth Management Inc.

Crystal Frost-Reeves (MUED ’07) and Brad Reeves (MUED ’09 & M.Ed. ’16) won their third Arkansas state marching band championship in four years with the Van Buren High School Marching Band in November 2020.

Stephen C. Rogers (M.S. CSP ’07) received the 2020 National Orientation Directors Association Outstanding Orientation, Transition and Retention Professional Award. Stephen is assistant director of student engagement at Collin College in Plano, Texas.

Liz Chrisman (GRAPH DESIGN ’09 & M.A. MMJR ’12) was named University and College Designers Association (UCDA) design awards co-chair for 2021. She will subsequently serve as UCDA awards chair in 2022. Liz is the director of photography at Arkansas Tech.

Amanda Gale Jones (SPH ’09) is employed by Connected Foster Care through the Arkansas Baptist Children’s Home as a case manager.

2010s

Lydia Grate (PR, JOUR and SPH ’11) was one of 39 women from around the United States selected to the B.A. EmpowHER 2020 cohort.

Hannah Goetz (BUAD ’12 & M.S. CSP ’14) joined Apptegy in Little Rock as a client success manager.

Allyson Johnson (JOUR ’12) began a new job at Edelman as account supervisor for the company’s corporate technology team. She is also serving as president of the Public Relations Society of America Hoosier Chapter.

Tanner W. Corbin (GEOL ’15 & M.Ed. ’17) completed a Master of Science degree in geology at the University of Arkansas in December 2020. He was also commissioned by Gov. Andy Beshear as a Kentucky Colonel.

Isabel Thoma Glenn (MGMT/MKTG ’15) completed her Juris Doctor from the University of Arkansas School of Law in 2020 and was subsequently hired by Friday, Eldredge and Clark to work in its Rogers office as part of the mergers and acquisitions practice group.

Joshua Donn Laffoon (CHEM ’15) graduated from the University of Illinois with a Doctor of Philosophy degree in fall 2020.

Kirsten Adams Robles (ECED ’15) earned a master’s degree in reading and dyslexia from the University of Central Arkansas in December 2020.

Paul Smith (M.S. CSP ’15) was named second vice president for the D2 Sports Information Directors Association. He is slated to serve as president from 2024-26. Paul serves as assistant director of athletics for communications at Texas Woman’s University.

Suede Graham (MUS ’16) accepted a position with Moelis and Company in New York City. He will work in recruiting and diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

Gavin Cox (JOUR ’17) earned a position at J.B. Hunt corporate headquarters in Lowell in November 2020.

Skylar Kincaid (MGMT/MKTG ’17) earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Central Arkansas in August 2020 and became a Certified Associate in Project Management through the Project Management Institute in December 2020.

John Vincent Davis (BUAD ’18) was hired as finance manager for Everett Infiniti of Central Arkansas.

Evan M. Hanna (JOUR ’18) was promoted to director of chapter operations for Kappa Alpha Order’s national office.

Asphen Beard (PSY ’19) is teaching first grade at Highland Park Elementary School for the Texarkana Independent School District (Texas).

Jaime Gardner (REHAB SCI ’19) is working in disability determination for the U.S. Social Security Administration.
