Three ATU Graduates Commissioned as Officers

Three graduating seniors from the U.S. Army ROTC program at Arkansas Tech University were commissioned as second lieutenants during a ceremony at Doc Bryan Student Services Center Lecture Hall on Saturday, May 10.

Daveon Carter of Conway, Dale Lecita of Waldron and Kavon Niknafs of Russellville received their gold bars before an audience of family, friends and U.S. Army ROTC cadets.

The commissioning coincided with each new officer’s graduation from Arkansas Tech.

Carter earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in psychology, sociology and criminal justice. He will be an ordinance officer in the U.S. Army.

Lecita received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree. He will be an aviation officer in the Arkansas Army National Guard.

Niknafs earned a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science. He will be a field artillery officer in the Arkansas Army National Guard.

The ATU U.S. Army ROTC program has commissioned more than 800 officers since it was founded in 1952.
