National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week

National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week

Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus is observing National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week during Sept. 20-26.

The annual event is organized by the National Coalition for Literacy (NCL). It is designed to recognize and celebrate the contributions of adult education, English language and family literacy programs and the achievements of adult education students across the country. According to the NCL, more than 36 million adults in the United States struggle with basic academic skills.

ATU-Ozark adult education serves the citizens of Franklin, Johnson and Logan counties. The programs offer opportunities for students to earn their GED credential, prepare for college or military entrance, learn the English language and receive workforce preparation and certifications such as WAGE, OSHA 10, CNA, Microsoft Office Specialist, Digital Literacy and more. Adult education provides on-site workplace classes to local businesses as well as local detention centers. Adult education services are funded through state and federal grants and are offered free to students.
