Wierman Lauded by Kennedy Center Program

Arkansas Tech University graduate student Skylar Wierman of Russellville has received recognition from the Kennedy Center Amercian College Theater Festival for her playwriting skills.

Wierman’s play “All the White Reasons” has been invited to be performed during the 2019 Region VI John Cauble One-Act Readings in Abilene, Texas, Feb. 24-28.

“I am thrilled that Skylar has received this honor,” said Dr. David J. Eshelman, professor of communication and director of the ATU theatre program. “It is a testament to the astute crafting and relevancy of her play.”

Wierman wrote the play as the thesis for her Master of Liberal Arts degree study at ATU.

“All the White Reasons” studies the fictionalized circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting of an African American man. It is told through the differing lenses of five Caucasian women in a series of monologues.

ATU theatre students staged a production of the play Nov. 8-10, 2018, at the Techionery Theatre. Summer Dantzler of Conway served as director.
