The National Weather Service has notified the public of an enhanced threat of severe weather in Arkansas on Friday, April 28.

Communication from the Little Rock office of the National Weather Service indicates that severe thunderstorms are possible in the northern half of Arkansas during the afternoon and evening hours.

The Russellville and Ozark campuses of Arkansas Tech University are included in the area with the enhanced threat of severe weather on Friday. Chances for dangerous weather conditions may continue through much of the weekend.

Potential hazards include damaging winds, large hail, tornadoes and heavy rain. Follow @NWSLittleRock on Twitter for updates.

Students on the Russellville campus of ATU are reminded that the parking lots west of North Glenwood Avenue may flood in times of heavy rain. Please take caution.

Arkansas Tech students, faculty and staff are encouraged to review the severe weather procedures outlined on the Department of Public Safety website.

In addition, each building at Arkansas Tech has designated shelter zones for use during severe weather events. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the designated shelter zones in the campus facilities they visit on a regular basis. Maps showing the shelter zones are prominently displayed in campus buildings.

Students, faculty and staff may register with the Campus Emergency and Outreach Notification (CEON) system to receive alerts when tornado warnings are issued for areas that include the Arkansas Tech campuses.
