Counseling Services Announces Workshops for Students

Arkansas Tech University Counseling Services will offer several group meetings and workshops this semester for students.  The workshops focus on a variety of topics including test anxiety, grief/loss and mindfulness.

Each workshop or meeting will be facilitated by one of Arkansas Tech’s licensed counselors.  There is no cost to attend the events, and any student is welcome to attend.

Organizers say registration is not required to attend each workshop.

The workshops and group meetings offered include:

Grief/Loss Support Group

  • Begins Monday, Feb. 3 and continues through the semester
  • 3-4 p.m., Arkansas Tech Health and Wellness Center
  • Led by Dr. Lori LeBahn and is designed to provide support in a safe and supportive setting with others who are experiencing similar concerns

Test Anxiety Workshop

  • Feb. 17, March 17 and April 14
  • 7-8 p.m., Room 202 of the Baswell Techionery
  • Led by Craig Witcher and will explore test anxiety, where it originates and ways to effectively manage responses to test anxiety

Mindfulness Group

  • Begins Feb. 18 and meets each Tuesday through April 15.
  • 3-4 p.m., Arkansas Tech Health and Wellness Center
  • Led by Kristy Davis and will present a series of attention training practices and cognitive strategies that can help one unhook from unproductive thought patterns and behaviors
