ATU Career Services Earns Award from ADHE

Norman Career Services at Arkansas Tech University has received a 2018 Closing the Gap award from the Arkansas Department of Higher Education in recognition of its Elevate program.

The awards program is part of an ADHE initiative entitled “Closing the Gap 2020: A Master Plan for Arkansas Higher Education.”

Founded in 2017, the ATU Norman Career Services Elevate program utilizes National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) career readiness standards and makes career preparation accessible to all students by providing it through self-paced, online learning.

“I am so proud that Norman Career Services has received this honor from the Arkansas Department of Higher Education,” said Dr. Jason Warnick, assistant vice president for student success at ATU. “Our Norman Career Services staff has helped so many students meet their career goals. It is great to see them recognized at the state level. As ATU moves forward with a mission of student success and continues to increase the social mobility of its graduates, Norman Career Services will be front and center in leading this charge.”

In order to be eligible for the Elevate program, ATU students must have earned 12 credit hours from Arkansas Tech with a minimum grade point average of 2.5.

Elevate includes six milestones that ATU students may complete in any order. As participants complete a self-assessment, resume and cover letter training, two mock interviews, a career action plan, attendance at two career fairs and an experiential learning opportunity, they become eligible to receive a variety of rewards.

Program rewards for ATU students include an ATU padfolio, a certificate of completion, a commemorative award, admission to a luncheon banquet and up to $500 to purchase business attire.

More than 125 ATU students are pursuing the Elevate program during the fall 2018 semester.

Norman Career Services at ATU is named for Arkansas Tech alumni Robert and Sandra Norman of Tulsa, Okla.
