ATU-Ozark Human Services Program Earns Accreditation

Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus has received accreditation for its Associate of Applied Science degree in human services.

The five-year accreditation from the Council for Standards in Human Services (CSHSE) is effective Oct. 29, 2017. The council cited 12 strengths of the program, including the effectiveness of the courses, the fact that the program was designed using the accreditation standards, the support of an advisory board, the evaluation process for faculty, the strong curriculum, the experience gained during the course and the support of the university and the chief academic officer.

“Human Services is an unbelievably broad field, with graduates working in jobs ranging from juvenile justice to mental health to homeland security and many others,” said Lynn Washington, Human Services Program Chair. “The core factors are a deep desire to help others, an ability to really listen and the will to facilitate change.”

According to CSHSE, the accreditation process is designed to assist programs in self-study evaluation and continual improvement in order to produce innovative approaches to the preparation of human service practitioners at all levels.

ATU-Ozark human services graduates complete training as mandated reporters for the state of Arkansas. The human services program at ATU-Ozark was established in 2012.
