Update on Concealed Handgun Carry Nov. 9

Thomas W. Pennington, associate vice president, counsel to the president and professor of legal studies at Arkansas Tech University, will offer presentations at ATU in Russellville and Ozark on the topic of concealed carry of a handgun on campus on Thursday, Nov. 9.

The Russellville campus session will begin at 3 p.m. in Rothwell Hall room 138. A session for the Ozark campus will begin at 9 a.m. in the Student Services Conference Center. Seating will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Attendance is open to all ATU faculty, staff and students.

The sessions will provide a general overview of the laws addressing concealed carry on campus as well as a discussion of the proposed changes by the Arkansas State Police to the Arkansas concealed handgun carry license rules. These proposed rule changes address, among other things, the enhanced training that will be required of concealed handgun license holders who wish to be able to carry a concealed handgun on campus.

The proposed rule changes by the Arkansas State Police are subject to a notice and comment period. All interested person are invited to present their written comments on the proposed rules by submitting them to Mary Claire McLaurin of the Arkansas State Police. Written opinions and comments will be considered by the Arkansas State Police if received at the above address by 4 p.m. on Nov. 10, 2017.
