Ozark Campus given United Way division award

For its contributions to the 2011-12 United Way Campaign, which totaled nearly $2.5 million, Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus was given a Franklin County Division Award during a wrap-up luncheon Friday, April 27.

The event was held in the Phoenix Expo Center at Fort Smith for all who participated in the campaign, which benefited United Way’s 34 community partner agencies and its initiatives.

Sam T. Sicard of First National Bank, chairperson for the 2011 United Way Board, said, “Once again, our community continues to step up because of the leadership.”

He also said that he was proud to be a part of an agency where 100% of the contributions stay local and are reinvested back into the community through United Way’s community partners and initiatives.

Twenty awards were handed out to 40 organizations. Along with Arkansas Tech-Ozark, the Franklin County Division Award was bestowed upon Butterball and Hug Chevrolet.

Sister Judith Marie Keith, who served as campaign chair, said 2011 was a tough year to solicit and raise funds, but also when people in the River Valley region appear to come together “and to try to do a little extra for those in need.”

As of Friday, $2,242,000 had been raised for the 2011-12 campaign.

Tom Minton, executive director for United Way of Fort Smith Area, announced the award winners at the luncheon. Keith will again serve as chair for the 2012-13 campaign.
