Near-freezing conditions and the occasional sleet pellet were not enough to deter 350 individuals from showing their support for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville on Saturday, April 7.
The fifth annual Out of the Darkness suicide prevention campus walk at ATU raised $13,695, bringing the five-year total for the event to $92,198. Arkansas Tech has been recognized as one of the top 10 Out of the Darkness campus walks in the nation on three occasions.
Kristy Davis, ATU associate dean for student wellness, and Tonya Oates, community education manager for Turning Point Adult Behavioral Health at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, serve as co-coordinators of the annual walk.
Those wishing to donate to the 2018 ATU Out of the Darkness walk may do so online through June 30.
