Symphonic Wind Ensemble Performs Sunday

An eclectic collection of works by composers from around the globe is on the program for the Arkansas Tech University Symphonic Wind Ensemble performance on Sunday, March 10.

ATU’s premier wind ensemble will perform beginning at 2:30 p.m. in Witherspoon Auditorium, 407 West Q Street in Russellville. Admission will be free and open to the public.

Dr. Daniel A. Belongia, associate professor of music and director of bands at ATU, has set a theme of “International Influences” for Sunday’s performance.

The ensemble will perform “Funeral Music for Queen Mary” by England’s Henry Purcell, “Pieta Signore” by Italy’s Alessandro Stradella and “Prelude, Op. 34 No. 14” by Russia’s Dmitri Shostakovich during the first half of the concert.

The show will continue with “Seeker’s Scherzo” by Zhou Tian of China and “Adagio para Orquesta de Instrumentos de Viento” by Joaquin Rodrigo of Spain.

American James Skyler’s “Minton’s Playhouse” will serve as the finale and will feature a saxophone quartet consisting of ATU’s Cole Birmingham, Jordan Davis, Tina Christiansen and Patricia Tobar.
