Author Series Welcomes Moses March 11

Dr. James Moses, professor of history at Arkansas Tech University, will be the featured speaker at the Ross Pendergraft Library and Technology Center Second Monday Author Series on March 11.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. in room 300B of the Pendergraft Library and Technology Center, 305 West Q Street in Russellville. Admission will be open to the public.

The title of Moses’ talk will be “The Rabbi and the Civil Rights Movement.” The discussion will center on the civil rights movement in Arkansas and the South as well as the role of Southern rabbis as change agents, with a special focus on Arkansas’s own Rabbi Ira Sanders of Little Rock.

Moses is the author of “Just and Righteous Causes: Rabbi Ira Sanders and the Fight for Racial and Social Justice in Arkansas, 1926-1963.”

“Just and Righteous Causes” is published by the University of Arkansas Press. It tells the story of Sanders’ advocacy for social justice in the realms of race, religion and gender during his nearly four decades leading Temple B’nai Israel in Little Rock.

Autographed copies of the book will be available for purchase during the March 11 event.

Moses earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Louisiana State University, a Master of Arts degree from the University of New Hampshire and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Tulane University. He has been a member of the ATU faculty since 1999.
