A Day to Give Back to the Community

Sometimes a smile is the best form of compensation.

“The Green and Gold Give Back event is a great opportunity for me to simply put forth my best efforts in being a service to others,” said Arkansas Tech University senior Natari Irvin, an interdisciplinary studies major from Jacksonville. “I am motivated by the grateful smiles and happy hearts of people that are pleased with my selfless mission to help them. Participating in this event, along with other service opportunities, gives me a chance to connect with other student leaders and people of the Russellville community.”

ATU will conduct its 2018 Green and Gold Give Back on Saturday, Nov. 17. Approximately 300 Tech students have registered in advance to provide volunteer service for 10 non-profit organizations, 10 parks and streets and 25 elderly citizens.

All students interested in serving are asked to report to the Doc Bryan Student Services Center Lecture Hall at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. They will be sent to various locations in the community beginning at 9 a.m.

“Now more than ever, I think it’s important to spread kindness,” said Kara Johnson, coordinator of leadership and service in the ATU Department of Campus Life. “What better way to do that than spend a beautiful day cleaning someone’s yard, brushing horses or picking up trash? It is so incredible to see the impact our students can have with just one day of service. Arkansas Tech students are really a rare breed. They have such a passion for serving and that kind of passion is infectious.”
