Wonder Boys, Greyhounds Break Tie Tuesday

Arkansas Tech University and Eastern New Mexico University will play the rubber match of a three-game basketball series nearly 50 years in the making on Tuesday, Dec. 4.

The Greyhounds edged the Wonder Boys 84-81 in the second round of the 1970 NAIA National Tournament. They met again on Dec. 20, 2008, in a classic at San Antonio, Texas. Tech earned a 69-61 victory on that occasion.

Tuesday’s contest will be a neutral-site, non-conference game played on the campus of Collin College in Plano, Texas.

The Wonder Boys will return to the Natural State following the game and begin preparations for a Great American Conference match-up with the University of Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday, Dec. 8. Game time at Steelman Fieldhouse in Monticello is set for 4 p.m. Saturday.

About the Wonder Boys: Arkansas Tech has lost two games by a combined total of six points over the last week. The Wonder Boys fell 86-81 at Ouachita Baptist University on Thursday and dropped an 80-79 decision at the buzzer to Henderson State University on Saturday. Sophomore guard R.J. Glasper (24 points per game) and senior guards Alex Brown (16.7 points per game) and Will Adler (14 points per game) are Tech’s leading scorers. Senior guard Freddy Lee has 408 career assists, fifth-most in Wonder Boys’ history.

About the Greyhounds: Eastern New Mexico defeated Midwestern State 85-73 on Thursday and Cameron University 86-72 on Saturday to begin Lone Star Conference play 2-0 for the first time in six years. Senior guard Zack Parker (11.4 points per game), sophomore guard Devin Pullum (10.6 points per game) and senior forward Chukuka Emili (10.4 points per game) give the Greyhounds three players averaging double figures in scoring. Senior guard Nick Brown was 7-of-11 from the field and scored a season-high 19 points against Cameron on Saturday.
