Wonder Boys 7th in GAC Football Poll

Arkansas Tech University is picked to finish seventh in the 2014 Great American Conference football standings according to a preseason poll of league head coaches.

The Wonder Boys were 5-6 overall and 5-5 in the GAC in 2013, when they finished tied for sixth in the conference standings.

Raymond Monica will be in his second season as the head football coach at Arkansas Tech in 2014.

Henderson State University is a unanimous preseason favorite to win the 2014 GAC football title. The Reddies collected 10 first-place votes and 100 points in the balloting, the results of which were released by the GAC office in Russellville on Thursday, July 31.

Harding University (2nd, 89 points) and Ouachita Baptist University (3rd, 84 points) are viewed by league head coaches as the top threats to unseat defending GAC champion Henderson State.

East Central University (4th, 63 points), Southern Arkansas University (5th, 60 points), Southwestern Oklahoma State University (6th, 54 points), Arkansas Tech (7th, 44 points), Southeastern Oklahoma State University (8th, 41 points), the University of Arkansas at Monticello (9th, 37 points), Northwestern Oklahoma State University (10th, 22 points) and Southern Nazarene University (11th, 11 points) complete the poll.

Arkansas Tech will begin its 100th football season by hosting Northwestern Oklahoma State for a GAC contest on Thursday, Sept. 4. Kickoff at Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field in Russellville is set for 7 p.m.
