Vallejo Named GAC Pitcher of the Week

Randy Vallejo of Arkansas Tech University is the Great American Conference pitcher of the week for the period ending Sunday, March 30.

The league office announced its weekly award winners on Monday.

Vallejo, a left-handed junior relief pitcher from Del Valle, Texas, recorded four saves while helping the nationally 15th-ranked Wonder Boys post a 4-0 week.

He allowed no runs on four hits over four innings of work on his way to GAC pitcher of the week honors.

Vallejo has tied the Arkansas Tech school record for saves in a single season with nine. He has matched the school-record total established by Tony Ferguson when he notched nine saves for the 1999 Wonder Boys.

Arkansas Tech (24-8 overall, 13-5 GAC) is in first place in the Great American Conference baseball standings going into the month of April. The Wonder Boys have not won a baseball conference championship since 1998, when they were regular season co-champions of the Gulf South Conference West Division.

Tech will host Oklahoma Christian University for a 3 p.m. non-conference game at Tech Field on Monday, March 31. Admission will be free.
