Arkansas Tech University earned its eighth consecutive Great American Conference baseball series victory by winning 2-of-3 games against nationally 15th-ranked University of Arkansas-Monticello at Tech Field in Russellville on Saturday and Sunday.
The Wonder Boys (26-14 overall, 18-9 GAC) will host nationally fifth-ranked Delta State University for a two-game, non-conference series this week. They are the final scheduled home games of the season for Arkansas Tech.
The two sides will play at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, and 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18. Live coverage will be available at www.arkansastechsports.com.
Game One: UAM 16, Tech 4
UA-Monticello stunned Arkansas Tech with 12 runs in the top of the 14th inning to claim a 16-4 victory in the series opener on Saturday.
The Wonder Boys had the winning run at third base in the 12th and 13th innings, but both times they were unable to push that run across home plate.
The Boll Weevils took advantage by rapping out 10 base hits in their 12-run rally in the 14th. Tech committed two errors during the frame.
UAM reliever Dawson Moser (3-1) retired the only batter he faced to end the bottom of the 13th inning. Brandon Ross recorded the final three outs for the Weevils.
Brady Weiss was 4-for-8 with five runs batted in for UAM.
Tech’s Mark Vaughn and Britt Stroth both drove in a run.
Game Two: Tech 3, UAM 1
Hayes Cox pitched a complete game to lead Arkansas Tech past UA-Monticello 3-1 in the second game of a Saturday doubleheader.
Cox (7-2) limited the Boll Weevils to one run on four hits over seven innings. He notched five strikeouts.
Stroth was 3-for-4 for the Wonder Boys. Shane Pollard and Kyle Gibbs had one RBI apiece.
Game Three: Tech 15, UAM 7
Arkansas Tech clubbed 15 base hits in a 15-7 win over UA-Monticello in the rubber match on Sunday.
Stroth and Gibbs led the hit parade with three apiece. Jake Harvey had three RBIs for the Wonder Boys, while Vaughn, Gibbs, Korey Thompson and Harry Gard all drove in two runs.
Anthony Race (3-1) provided Tech with four and one-third innings of relief pitching, during which time he held the Weevils to one run on four hits.
