Seven Golden Suns Named All-GAC

Arkansas Tech University has seven representatives on the 2015 All-Great American Conference softball teams, which were announced prior to the beginning of the conference tournament in Bentonville on Wednesday, April 29.

Two Golden Suns — junior outfielder Kambri Hill of Springdale and senior utility player Whitney Robinson of Choctaw, Okla. — were voted to the 2015 All-GAC first team.

Arkansas Tech placed sophomore pitcher Sydnee Clark of Redfield, freshman pitcher Morgan Vaughan of Bella Vista and senior outfielder Shanna Davidson of Coalgate, Okla., on the 2015 All-GAC second team.

Sophomore catcher Courtney Colunga of Waco, Texas, and sophomore shortstop Jalissa Gum of Red Rock, Okla., earned a place on the 2015 All-GAC honorable mention list.

Those seven all-conference performers helped the Golden Suns complete the regular season with a 37-18 overall record and a 22-14 mark in conference play. Under the direction of head coach Kristina McSweeney, Arkansas Tech enters the postseason ranked No. 5 in the NCAA Division II Central Region.

The Golden Suns face Harding University in the first round of the 2015 GAC Tournament at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 30. The double-elimination event continues through Saturday, May 2, in Bentonville.
