Country Roads, Take Us to NCAA Nationals

Head coach Luke Calcatera and the Arkansas Tech University men’s golf program will compete in the NCAA Division II Championships for a third consecutive year.

The Wonder Boys posted a 54-hole team total of 879 Thursday and Friday to finish tied for third in the NCAA Division II Midwest/Central Regional at Hot Springs Country Club.

The top six teams from the regional advance to compete at the Resort at Glade Springs in Daniel, W. Va., May 19-23.

Arkansas Tech qualified for match play and reached the national semifinals (2017) and the national quarterfinals (2018) at the NCAA Division II Championships the last two years.

The Wonder Boys’ path to nationals in 2019 was paved during the second round of the regional. Arkansas Tech fired the low 18-hole team score of the tournament on Tuesday morning, a 7-under par 281, to surge inside the top six on the team leaderboard.

A final-round 300 was good enough to keep the Wonder Boys 11 strokes inside the cut line and on their way to West Virginia.

Shawn Tsai (T-14th, 76-70-74-220), Andre Jacobs (T-17th, 75-69-77-221), Francois Jacobs (T-17th, 72-71-78-221), Austin Gean (T-27th, 75-71-76-222) and Kellen Gray (76th, 79-79-73-231) represented Arkansas Tech in the regional.
