Golden Suns, Wonder Boys Stay in Top 25

Arkansas Tech University is one of just two NCAA Division II institutions ranked in the national top 25 poll for both men’s and women’s basketball this week.

The Golden Suns (5-1) fell five spots to No. 6 in the latest USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division II women’s basketball top 25 poll, which was released by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association on Tuesday.

The Wonder Boys (4-2) moved up one position to No. 21 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches NCAA Division II men’s basketball top 25 poll.

Grand Valley State is the only other school among the 273 NCAA Division II members that can claim nationally-ranked teams in both men’s and women’s basketball this week. Grand Valley State’s women are ranked 14th and its men are ranked 16th.

The rankings continued long streaks in the national poll for both Arkansas Tech teams.

The Wonder Boys have earned a spot in the men’s top 25 in 18 consecutive weeks, while the Golden Suns have been listed among the top 25 women’s teams in NCAA Division II for 16 consecutive weeks. Tech’s women have been in the top 10 for 12 straight weeks.

Arkansas Tech will return home to Tucker Coliseum in Russellville for non-conference contests this weekend. The Wonder Boys will host Southwestern Christian at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3, while the Golden Suns will entertain St. Edward’s University at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4.

Admission to both games will be free with a valid Tech identification card.

The general public can gain admission to both games for $1 with the donation of a new and unwrapped toy. The donated toys will be collected by the Arkansas Tech Department of Public Safety as part of its ongoing Toys for Tots drive.
